This set of six galleries features artwork from different phases, times, and themes of my life. The Portrait Gallery exhibits self-portraits I have torn, drawn, and painted since 1985. Text will soon accompany many images. Creating a self-portrait actually provides a wonderful opportunity for deep self-reflection and expressions. The Traveling Paintings gallery features watercolor and gouache paintings I have explored while traveling across the United States. The 1989 Series, viewable in the Traveling Watercolors section of Tree to Tree: Recovery Transformation, covers travels through Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, Greece, and Egypt. The University Art gallery exhibits my earlier work while attending the University of Colorado, Boulder, 1986-1991. The Studio Art Center International features artwork created while I was attending Studio Art Center International (S.A.C.I.) in Florence, Italy in Spring 1989. S.A.C.I. is a study abroad program of The Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, Ohio. Only drawings and oil paintings are exhibited. The Recovery Art gallery chronologically exhibits my healing process from a traumatic brain injury, sustained July 18, 1989. The journey continues, my worlds expand and integrate. This selection includes art that was not included in the Tree to Tree: Recovery Transformation traveling exhibit. |
This set of galleries is an art exhibit that I compiled to document my healing process as reflected through my artistic expressions from 1989 through 1991. The exhibit traveled across the country from 1993 to 1995, visiting five state Brain Injury Conferences, three art galleries and one hospital. The exhibit consists of six sections. The Firenze gallery features seven drawings and oil paintings created while studying at S.A.C.I. in Florence, Italy in the Spring of 1989. The Traveling Watercolors section exhibits 37 watercolor paintings created while traveling through Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and Egypt. An additional eight paintings created in 1990 and 1991 complete this section. The Transforming Trees section features three paintings that succinctly reflect the healing stage that I was in during the time of creation. The Tree to Tree section features seven drawings, dated July 1989 - November 1991, that display my healing process through my evolving imagining of trees. The Screaming Women section features three oil paintings that explicitly express the pain, horror, suffering and loss I must have felt in the initial times around my injury. The paintings were created during the Summer of 1991 - a total of eight.
The Breaking Boundaries section exhibits in full detail an art piece that created itself through me. It was first exhibited at my Bachelor's of Fine Arts Graduation Art Show, December 13, 1991 The Growing Through It workshop process is a natural outgrowth of the healing artwork that created itself through me during my initial recovery. The Workshop Gallery exhibits all completed art pieces with accompanying stories. |
