A young artist is taking her art on the road, all the way to Washington D.C., after being selected to represent the State of Oregon in a national touring art exhibition.
Nine year-old Billie Brown, found out last month that her artwork was selected to be a part of the "All Kids Can Create" national touring art exhibit, sponsored by VSA Arts and CVS Caremark.
It all started when Lighthouse School art teacher Bittin Duggan, encouraged each student to participate in the competition, which asks kids to create a piece of art that represents something about where they live.
"She was selected only amongst the, I don't know, how many hundreds from Oregon state, and she was competing against someone from Portland. So that's what's really impressive, that someone from Portland was also selected, and her piece was chosen," said Duggan.
Now Brown and Duggan will travel to Washington D.C. in May, to help kick-off the two-year touring exhibit.
"Her artwork, with 50 other pieces, will be at Union Station in Washington D.C. for the opening reception, and we'll get to go there for the ribbon cutting ceremony of it."
Brown says she's most looking forward to the plane ride to DC..
This is the second year in a row that her artwork has been selected as the best in Oregon.
