Art Piece Story

An artistic expression created by a powerful black, outrageous and strong woman. She created an artistic expression of the changes she went through after sustaining brain injury.

Participants' Stories

The earth is the hiding place for snails and so It is with people. We are grounded and we live and struggle. When you have had a brain injury it is like coming from the earth again and starting like the low snail, slowly and painfully up the slopes and hills of life.

Your body is surrounded with these emotions and all of the emotions have tails like rockets that shoot forward anytime they want to and you travel with them in your mind.

The blue emotion is called the blues and it keeps you in a low mood. Purple is called despair and you are in the lowest dregs of your life, why me is always asked and there are no answers. Confusion has eyes all over her and she looks and tries TO keep her eyes everywhere and nowhere, just like we are. Hurt is covered with holes and dark dots because we hurt all over, and yet we live.

My brown emotion is the bottomless pit and the we are emerging from the mud, sometimes we lose half our bodies, and we just hang in space loneliness is colorness, pain is black because it takes over the entire body and yes we suffer in silence, and hurt loves this.

The strongest one of our souls is traveling to the sun, lift our hands and we are bathed in light and our souls struggle to be free. Our brain cannot tell us what direction our lives will take so we reach for the freedom and how to start over.

OUR SOULS HAVE NO SET COLOR SINCE WE ARE ALL PEOPLE AND HAVE SUFFERED AND WE ARE TRYING TO GET OVER THIS HURT.

Our journey is a long one because the brain has to grow all over and some of these emotions we have to shed or try to bury them and once we can the healing process will begin. We have to overcome the pain, hurt and suffering, loneliness, despair, anger, why me, and once we climb to the top of our mountain of life we will and can survive.

ONE WANTS TO TAKE THIS JOURNEY AND ONCE WE LEARN TO CAPTURE OUR THOUGHTS WE CAN TAKE THE JOURNEY WITH LITTLE EMOTIONS BUT STILL FEELING AND NOW THE TRANSFORMATION HAS BEGUN.
