(recorded by Bittin as the group told her what the art piece represents)
"A ballon filled with the heat of passion and desire rises above the turbulent waters of brain injury to new vistas and expectations. It represents the freeing of ourselves from the limitations of society and the trauma of injury.
"We rise to new hopes, dreams, and acceptance.
"The re-creation of Self is a journey through It. It is the do-do - the disability, the Maumee River, negativity. The do-do is all those thing that others told us to do ; like do this, don't do that, do it this way; do it my way, don't do it your way; don't do it that way, do it just this way, or you're not right and you don't fit and you're wrong" (These are unfortunate real experiences too many of the participants underwent during their individual recovery).
"The do-do in our lives is continually reminded to us by our shortcomings" (the resulting deficits after sustaining brain damage are considered to be the "do-do" in our lives).
"Old baggage of past sins and current fears remain through the trip.
"Gradually, left in the wake of recovery, they are toppled milestones of accomplishments.
"Broken bottles, symbolic of negative addictions prior, are tossed in the raging rapids."
...it with others-listening to their stories I also like to AA meetings listening to what other people have done to themselves, listening to their stories and not coming out confused. I also like a person who helps me and who gives me support in walking again. Or someone who has a big mit to catch me when I fall.
I need to be guided on which way I should turn, right or left.
STRENGTH-I always knew what I could do and got it done-now I hope I can do what I really want to do without mess it up my plans and other people's plans. I want to own a good restaurant and stay away from drugs and alcohol. Although it was a big thing for me in the 80's, but now I want to stay away.
Window-to readjust my collarbone configuration (broke) (Lucky) !!!!!!!!
After awaking, six (6) weeks from a coma I started all over again. Not just a couple of things, but each every little thing had to be re-invented to accommodate the new variables. Havng a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) is one I have come to know s one hidden facter I hurdle daily.
One gripe I have is not one of breathing and maintaining bodily function, but of others and their immature rites of not knowing-caring.
All of this could be better achieved with all of the provisions of the American Disability Act being recognized. Not just by Government Offices, but by all Public facilities.
Progression - I've progressed from a mere thought on rehabilitation from a brain-injury to a progressed patient of life.
Education - I've tried to reconcile my decisions on a positive livelihood to focus in on Educative subjects, w/no prefigured casts to fill. Thus, the circumstances surrounding my attempts, cancelled the accepted path of profession.
Courage - the "meaning" is what my life is about. Each and Everyday. I find an inner strength to venture out to explore a life.
Awareness-self, community - Not only am I aware of all of the improvisions the community has or doesn't have but the living well with others who see me as an integral part of destiny....
Determination - everyday of hospitalizations presented me with a new theory to be understood and each day I warily but inventively stammered forward.
Faith - in a view, Dental Hygiene tells us to have healthy teeth. On life, walk a ....
Future
Open minded and understand limitations
Acceptance - of what we are now and what happened to us and realization of how things have changed , and how much more they are going to.
