Bittin is the Art Teacher at The Lighthouse School in Hauser, Oregon.
THe school serves students, Kindergarten through Eight grades, who live in the greater Coos Bay/North Bend Area.
This is the third year that we have entered this National Art Call.
This year update:
All Kids Can… CREATE! STATE OF THE ART Exhibition
The theme, State of the Art, invites young people with and without disabilities across the United States to explore their environments and discover the roles they play within their communities.
At Lighthouse School this year each class explored a different aspect of the uniquness of Living in the Greater Coos Bay Area.
First Graders draw and painted a bees wax crayon and watercolor resist piece of a dungenous crab within it's ocean environment as each child imagine it.
Second Graders formed ceramic fish by combining two pinch pots and added specific features to meet their and glazed them as each fish took its final form.
Third Graders portrayed the life cycle of local Salmon using a wax-resist method.

For the third year VSA arts and the CVS Caremark All Kids Can program are joining together in a comprehensive national campaign to encourage inclusive arts education and provide increased public awareness of the arts in the lives and learning of young people with disabilities. The culminating activity of the campaign will be a national exhibit of a selection of works by children held in Washington, D.C.
